What you need

  • Android 8.0 or later.
  • For the on-device assistant: a 64-bit phone sold with 8 GB of memory or more, and about 3 GB of free space.
  • A one-time download of the assistant's language model, about 2.4 GB. Wi-Fi recommended; the app asks before it starts.

Android asks before installing an app from outside Google Play; that's expected. Every file, the checksums and the release notes are on the GitHub release page.

See it work

On its own, the app is an assistant and a player for what's on your phone. Connected to a Domovoi server at home, it runs the whole house.

What it does

  • Answers typed or spoken questions with a language model running on the phone, and reads the answer aloud.
  • Works with no server, and in airplane mode once the model is on the phone.
  • Plays the music and videos on your phone, and shows its photos and the folders you choose.
  • With your Domovoi server: music in every room, radio, podcasts, timers, drop-in like an intercom, and room mode for a spare phone.

What it doesn't

  • The assistant can't see your photos, files, contacts or location. It sees the conversation and nothing else.
  • The phone's assistant doesn't listen for a wake word. The mic opens when you tap it and closes when you stop talking.
  • It doesn't set timers or control music yet. In this first version it's a conversation.
  • No account, no cloud fallback, no analytics, no ads and no crash reporting.

For the whole house

Put a Domovoi server on a computer at home, and the app, the dashboard and a voice in every room all run from it. Your voice never leaves your network.

Your PC as the house's server

The Windows installer sets up the whole Domovoi server on a Windows 11 PC: speech, the language models, voices, your music library and the dashboard.

  • Windows 11 22H2 or later (64-bit), with virtualization turned on in the firmware.
  • 16 GB of memory and 40 GB free, ideally on an SSD. An NVIDIA GPU helps but isn't needed.
  • About 10.5 to 13.5 GB to download during setup, most of it the AI models.
  • The installer isn't code-signed yet. Turn Smart App Control off, and when Windows says “Windows protected your PC”, choose More info, then Run anyway.

A voice in every room

Any room can have Domovoi: a Raspberry Pi speaker, a spare Linux or Windows laptop, or an old phone or tablet running this app in room mode.

Add one from your server's dashboard under Settings, Satellites. It joins with a one-time approval code, and then it hears the wake word, answers, plays music, rings timers and works as an intercom.

  • Keep laptops and phones on a charger, on a hard surface, with a charge limit if they have one.
  • A phone or tablet becomes a room through this app, with nothing else to install.

Private by design

Coders Farm collects nothing from the app.

The assistant hears and answers on the phone, and audio is never saved.

Everything else talks only to your own Domovoi server, on your home network.

No. The assistant and your phone's own music, videos and photos work without one. A server adds music in every room, timers, the intercom and more. Set one up on a Windows PC or Linux.
